Exclusive Tri-State Screening, One Night Only

Alive & Kicking Trailer

7 PM Saturday, June 24   Memorial Hall
1225 Elm St, Cincinnati, 45202

Alive & Kicking Trailer ALIVE AND KICKING – A big-screen visit to the exciting, high-energy culture of the swing dance world, in a documentary that celebrates music, improvisation, American history and human connection. It's all framed by glorious motion, swirling and twirling dancers infused with passion for music and dancing.

Along with eye-popping swing dancing, this entertaining action film shares the personal stories of people of all ages who experience the joy of social and competitive dancing. And, it tracks the role of this distinctively American music in our popular culture — from its birth in New Orleans, the Charleston, the Lindy Hop and Harlem Renaissance, big bands and WWII, up to its revival and explosive intergenerational popularity today.

HOW IT WORKS   The evening is all about sharing happiness and having fun. The film will get your blood flowing and toes tapping. Afterward, In the ballroom, the Cincinnati Lindy Society will lead a swing dance lesson showing the basics, followed by a dance party for everyone with live music. Across the hall, visit the bar and relax in the Lindy Hop Lounge. From 18 to 88, you can dance at your pace, or watch the action, or both. Our guess is you'll take a turn on the dance floor, and have a ball!

"The jaw-dropping improvisation and physical intimacy of the dancers make ALIVE AND KICKING an action film par excellence — joy-fueled and gravity-defying."         – Los Angeles Times

• Seating Comfort — Some patrons at our February and March screenings found the wooden seats to be somewhat unforgiving over the span of two 90-minute film sessions. Although Alive and Kicking is only half as long, you may bring a cushion with you to the screening.

• Special thanks to WMKV's Bob Hanneken for bringing in the swing band, the Ron Purdon Quintet, and Ryan Quatman with The Cincinnati Lindy Society for coordinating swing dance demo and lessons.
