    Post-Film Discussion

    For Lunafest, the post-film discussion will be held in the Carnegie Gallery, not the the Theatre. Everyone is invited to join in the conversation; cookies and coffee will be available.

    Martha Viehmann
    Martha Viehmann
    With a PhD from Yale and AB from Dartmouth and educational focus on Literature and Culture, American Studies and writing, Martha Viehmann has taught at the college level at NKU, Xavier, University of Colorado, University of Denver and Sinclair Community College in Dayton. Throughout her career she has helped students find their way in a variety of courses - English, American Studies, science and literature, history of the U.S. West. About a decade ago while at the University of Denver, she began to include films in her classes and so began to learn more about how movies make meaning.






    About Lunafest

    LUNAFEST is an annual traveling film festival dedicated to promoting awareness about women's issues, highlighting women filmmakers, and bringing women together in their community.

    LUNA created LUNAFEST to support women on a number of levels. Here is their mission:
  • To provide women filmmakers the opportunity to be seen and heard
  • To empower women by showcasing women's issues, stories and amazing moments
  • To support women's health and our partnership with the Breast Cancer Fund
  • To support local communities by providing non-profit groups a creative medium to raise funds for local organizations
  • To provide women with a forum to communicate, share, and inspire social change within their communities

    THE BREAST CANCER FUND is dedicated to eliminating the environmental causes of breast cancer.     About The Farris Education Center

    Located at the Carnegie in Covington, the Eva G. Farris Education Center provides arts education to over 5,000 children annually, many of whom live at or below the poverty level. Staff of the center work with area schools and organizations to bring performances and creative experiences to local and under-privileged children who might not otherwise be exposed to the arts.     THE LUNAFEST SHORT FILM FESTIVAL brings us original, engaging, informative and entertaining short films — created by women filmmakers; about universal issues that impact women, their families, relationships and careers; made for women and the men who care about them. This year's themes include:

    Love    Family    Aging    Being Alone
    Marriage    Self-Image    Maternal Healthcare

    SELECTED FROM 850 ENTRIES, the Lunafest winners portray real-life characters of varied nationalities and ethnicities, conveyed in diverse styles with insight and compassion. These short dramas, comedies and documentaries will tug at your heartstrings, make you smile and make you think.


    Bonus Film, Special Screening:   QUIRK OF FATE
    Cincinnati World Cinema is delighted to present Marco Riedl's remarkable film. Watch the trailer and read more about this touching holiday drama at the bottom of this page.


    A PORTION OF THE PROCEEDS from the CWC Lunafest screenings will go to Luna's national philanthropic partner, the Breast Cancer Fund and locally, to the Eva G.     Set at Christmas time in a small town near Cologne Germany, the story centers on a young couple's encounter with adversity and their sacrifices to save their critically ill young daughter. With excellent production values, acting, editing and music, Quirk of Fate is an open and loving homage to the themes of Frank Capra (It's a Wonderful Life) and O'Henry (The Gift of the Magi).
